Friday, April 22,  S – Stratford

Stratford is the only town in Stratford District, it is in the heart of the Taranaki Region, North Island New Zealandalso the gateway to Mount Taranaki/Egmont.

It lies beneath the eastern slopes of Mount Taranaki/Egmont, approximately half-way between New Plymouth and Hawera, near the geographic centre of the Taranaki Region.

The Stratford District has a population of 9,230, (June 2015 estimate).

Stratford’s main industry is dairying, a high level of rainfall, makes for some of the best dairy farming country  in New Zealand.

Stratford is also known for its nationally-renowned speedway, racecourse and golf course.

It is my birth town, have lived there some sixty years.

If you would like to know more about Stratford.

  1. You chose a Stratford as well?! This made me smile when I read it. The town looks pretty with his clock tower. It certainly reminded me at once at the tudor-houses of the Stratford(-Upon-Avon) I chose. And it plays Romeo and Juliet… Is there any Shakespeare Pub or else in your Stratford?

    • You surprised me when I saw your S for A to Z challenge was the same as mine, who would have thought that would have happened when we both took on the challenge.
I’m not sure about the Shakespeare pub but all streets in Stratford are named after Shakespearean plays and characters.
Will have to study it a bit more now.
