Saturday, April 23,  T – Tauranga

Tauranga is a city in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand.

It has an urban population of 130,800 (June 2015 estimate).

The Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port in terms of gross export tonnage and efficiency.

Much of the countryside surrounding Tauranga is horticultural land, used to grow a wide range of fresh produce for both domestic consumption and export.

There are many kiwifruit and avocados orchards as well as other crops. Recent years have seen the establishment of boutique vineyards and wineries.

Due to the temperate climate, outdoor activities are very popular, including golf, tramping (hiking), mountain biking and white water rafting.

The Bay of Plenty coastline has miles of golden sandy beaches, and water sports are very popular, including swimming, surfing, fishing, diving, kayaking and kitesurfing.

Tourists also enjoy dolphin-watching on specially run boat trips.

  4. Finding your blog for the first time while out blog hopping from North Carolina during the #Challenge before hurrying on to visit as many blogs as possible on Sunday, our day off. Everyone who travels to New Zealand tells me they wish they had spent all their time there rather than Australia. As a gardener, I regret not seeing the beautiful gardens there.
