September 2017 Day 2

Was either of your parents raised in your hometown? If not, how did they end up there?

My mother lived at Mahoe with her parents from birth, as records say, that at my grandparents Golden Wedding in 1937, they had been farming there for twenty-five years, my mother was born in 1912, Elsie Calista Corbishley. My Father Lewis Edward Olson was a farm worker on Palmer Road at Mahoe working for my Great Uncle Eric Burrows.

Mahoe is a small farming district nine miles west of Stratford on the Stratford – Opunake road it has a public hall and school which was opened in 1898, don’t think it is used as a school now, must take a drive out there one day and find out.

Actually, this challenge is already becoming a Genealogy record for my family.

  1. Hi Elsie. I think it is great that this is becoming a genealogy record for your family. I am hoping that mine will be that as well, a memory book for our children.

I enjoyed reading your post. How lovely that you and your mother have the same name. I was named after my daddy’s paternal grandmother and her sister. I look forward to reading whatever you find out about the school.

    Have a blessed weekend. 🙂
