McClendonvilla September 2017 Challenge – Day 3
September 2017 Day 3
Were you raised in a town/city or in a rural area? Do you live in the same type of place now?
All my life was spent in the rural area, until retirement nine months ago.
30 Years dairy farming while working in the Rag Trade until 2002, Then 15 years beef farming in Taranaki East at Okoki, inland from Urenui.
It must be very different to where you are. You seem to enjoy your retirement!

It’s Fathers Day in NZ today, I have had a busy day with family visiting.
Answering to your reply about retirement, at the age of seventy-six I was ready, after a lifetime of working,my husband was eighty last January, we were both ready, I had ACC cancer and John my husband has Prostrate cancer, our years are numbered but when you get to that age we will enjoy our last years together relaxing with our family.
Hope you are having a nice quiet weekend before those busy day with a new grand child arrive.

Happy Father’s Day to your husband. I started working when I was a teenager because I had to share family responsibility. I worked for 50 years by the time I was retired. After my cancer treatment, I had to work for one more year to make the best of my retirement. That year was difficult because of my lymphedema. I am still dealing with it everyday. My husband is somewhat healthy besides low end of diabetes.
Thank you. I have a lot of tidying to do before I go to Portland!

It’s so interesting to hear about your growing up years. Seems like so many things in your part of the world is similar to most people, but also so different! I’m enjoying reading your posts! 🙂

I enjoy reading your posts, too, Elsie. Please tell me more about “rag trade”. Is that a phrase about textile business or a writing business? I’ve heard it used both ways here in the US.
I grew up beside a dairy farm, well, from age 12 to age 18. It was great living out there. I am glad that you and your husband are enjoying retirement. None of us knows the number of our days…we should enjoy absolutely all of them. 🙂
Have a blessed day.

Thanks for the Challenge, it is sure bringing up memories of days gone by.
The Ragtrade is the Textile business which has long ago off shore, practically none in NZ now.
Sending blessing your way, have a great week.

Thank you for explaining this to me, Elsie. Pretty much textiles are a thing of the past here in the US, too.
Have a blessed day. 🙂
