Time for the October Poetry Writing Month at OctPoWriMo!

Theme for 2018 is a one lined quote that gives me a idea for the Poem – Quotes are copied from Goodreads.com – tag poetry.

On Wednesday (NZ time) my poem will be my usual Tanka, Poetry Weekly Challenge poem, on Friday Alphabet Haiku, which is a Weekly Challenge of Abigail Gronway, last week it was the letter (M)

“Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”
G.K. Chesterton

Cheese – True Gold

Valued food like cheese, is true gold
Weight gain, exercise, good for you
Fit healthy body, wine and cheese
It’s so endlessly delicious

Weight gain, exercise, good for you
Only game you win when you lose
Cheese is not on the losing side
Don’t choose skinny over healthy

Fit healthy body, wine and cheese
Living like it’s heaven on earth
So live and laugh, don’t just exist
Don’t dream about cheese, enjoy it

Cheese so endlessly delicious
Grilled cheese, ultimate comfort food
Strong, sharp, mellow or mild flavour
Golden sight for most occasions.

Poets are no longer silent on the subject of cheese as here is a poem Titled – Cheese True Gold.

Retourne Poetry is a French form of poetry and its all about repetition. It contains four quatrains and each line has eight syllables. (16 lines, 8/8/8/8)

The trick is that the first stanza, second line must also be the second stanza first line, the first stanza third line is the third stanza first, and the first stanza fourth line is the fourth stanza first.

Retournes do not have to rhyme. (rhyme optional)

  1. I was going to leave a cheesy comment, but decided against it 😉 I do love cheese, and I love your Retourne. I’ve written a Jram, which does something similar to a Retourne. It takes the lines of the first stanza in reverse order (4th, 3rd, 2nd, then 1st) and uses them as the 1st line of succeeding stanzas, for 5 quatrains total. I haven’t published my poem, I only wrote it for practice, but when I read yours, I immediately remembered the technique and had to search to figure out where I had seen something like it before. Retourne is also on my list, but I haven’t done one yet, so you have paved the way for me. I like how you took a common subject and elevated it to a grand status. You have also motivated me to participate in #OctPoWriMo. I’ve never done that before. Have a wonderful day, Elsie!
