Tanka Poetry – Light and Dark
small rays of bright light
reflects a kaleidoscope
dark and light colours
reminding me of schooldays
hurrying home before darkness

Tanka Poetry – consists of five units, usually with the following pattern of – 5-7-5-7-7 which is syllables.
The first three lines (5/7/5) are the upper phase. This upper stage is where you create an image in your reader’s mind.
The last two lines (7/7) of a Tanka poem are called the lower phase. The final two lines should express the poet’s ideas about the image that was created in the three lines above.
except I have to take issue with that syllable count…

Hi Carolyn, Thanks for the thoughts I appreciate it. Have taken time off from my blog, very busy updating and sorting out Hagleys Family tree for my family which I started 20 years ago, before it is too late, nearly finished. About the dust storm from Oz never seen any, if it is still some around I’m sure the strong south easterlies we have at the moment will blow it away. All the best, have a nice week.

Good to hear you are occupied with an interesting quest. 🙂
All the very best with it, Elsie. My brother did all that some years past; can be very interesting! Let us know if you find some drama!!!

I really enjoyed this one! I love the concept of light vs. dark and thinking about getting home after school before dark really intrigued me…….what time would you get home from school and does it get light early? Bless You and your writing! 🙂
